LGBTQ Equality News

flyjasonfly:

My first tattoo depicts what I hold closest to my heart — my sexuality.

  • The upside-down triangle: A symbol of gay pride.  The symbol derives from World War II during the Holocaust when Nazi soldiers would mark “homosexuals” with a pink triangle before their mass execution.  Throughout history, the symbol has turned from a demeaning mark of death to an inspiring symbol of pride.
  • The Braille spells L-O-V-E:  I chose to place the words “love” in Braille because much like the blind must find their way in understanding a world with written language I had to find love within myself blindly in a world filled with hetero-normative expectations.
  • The two swords:  The two swords placed outside the triangle symbolize the fight to advocate for my own equality within a world filled with those who still belittle and mock gays and the fact that I must continually defend what means most important to me.
